We always planned to offer a full marathon in our beautiful community, but we wanted to get the details right for you — the runner.
In 2012 we launched the Grand Forks Wild Hog Half Marathon and set out to give runners the best race experience: flat and scenic courses, high-quality swag, a terrific expo and unforgettable post-race festivities.
After four years of planning, we’re still offering the same great experience but adding the inaugural marathon distance on Sept. 24, 2016.
Bringing the marathon back to Grand Forks couldn’t be more fitting. Our city is the birthplace for marathons in North Dakota and hosted the North Dakota Marathon for 13 years, beginning in 1972.
There’s no better time than early autumn to run in the Red River Valley, with fall colors beginning to turn and average morning temperatures in the mid 40s — perfect for the start of the marathon, half marathon and 10K. By early afternoon, enjoy temperatures typically in the low 60s — perfect for your post-race celebration.
Registration for all races begins Feb. 28. Those signing up for the inaugural marathon by July 31 will receive a jacket commemorating this historic race.
